Welcome to Four Elements

Four Elements offers the ideal place to relax and leave the hustle of the city behind. Centrally located in the stunning Margaret River Wine Region, Four Elements offers easy access to the many attractions in the area from world class wineries, world class surfing and family beaches, ancient caves and delicious local cuisine.  Possibly MORE IMPORTANTLY Four Elements is all about kids,  Sam and Peter both have an interest in education and child development, and Four Elements has evolved to offer children an opportunity to engage with nature and participate in activities no longer easily accessed in our large urban communities.   A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video perhaps more, so watch this video prepared by BuggyBuddys and if you would like to know more have a look at our Activities and About Us pages

Our two bedroom cottages set in the peaceful surrounds of our farmstay offer luxury accommodation for up to six. The cottages are fully self contained and airconditioned making them an ideal choice for a family, or group of friends planning to get away. For the children, we have a variety of farm activities with at least one activity run each day often two,  we are confident we offer more variety of activities than any other farmstay

Activity - Mountain Bikes in The Pine Forest

Looking for a fun, free family activity while you are staying in the Margaret River Area?  Why not take the kids to The Pines mountain bike area.  There are a variety of trails to suit all skill levels through picturesque pine forest, a perfect way to work up an appetite before lunching at one of the many wineries or breweries on your way back to Four Elements.

mtb boys riding smallThe Pine mountain bike trail area is located in Pine forest managed by the Department of Environment and Conservation, and is maintained by the Margaret River Off Road Cycle Association.  There are kilometres of trails through the pine forest with separate courses designed for different skill levels.  It is an area used by both families with children and the more seriously competitive mountain biker, but there is a great sharing atmosphere.  It is also close to the longer Rails to Trails bike tracks which are an ongoing project to link Busselton to Augusta with a bike trail along the old timber railway line.  We will cover sections of this trail in future articles.

You will need

Bikes, our boys ride various sizes of bikes, mountain bikes are ideal but not mtb trail sign smallessential on the easier courses. Some refreshments, and appropriate clothing.  It is a really shady spot so sun cream is not as high a priority as it might be in more exposed locations.    A little first aid gear (bandaids) helps when the kids take some skin off a hand or elbow.

The Pines is located in an area bounded by Carters Road to the South and Bussell Highway to the East, approximately 2.8km North of Margaret River it is a twenty minute drive from Four Elements.  It is easily accessible by two wheel drive vehicles, with graded gravel tracks in the forest area.

Leaving Four Elements, zero your trip meter and turn right onto Johnson Rd.  Right again onto Pusey Rd at the end of Johnson.  Follow Pusey along its winding course, it will become Harmans Mill Road, continue until you reach the T intersection with Bussell Hwy.  Turn right onto Bussell Hwy heading toward Cowaramup and beyond that Margaret River.  At about the 24 km mark you will pass Osmington Rd on your left, about 1km further on you need to turn right onto the gravel access track, we have taken a photo of the turn off as it appears from the car.  If you pass the Margaret River Airstrip access road on the left you have gone too far.  Once on the track follow it South, it will turn West, cross a creek and start heading up hill.  One of our favourite circuits with the kids is called Noodle Bowl, to get there take the 2nd left after you cross the creek and then the second right.  You will see bike tracks either side of the road and MRORCA orange signs naming tracks.

You need to know

The MRORCA has placed a number of informational signs (see our photo) that have a map of the circuits, explain the codes of practice and difficulty ratings.  You should have a read,  probably the most important thing to know is that the tracks have marked direction of travel - this avoids nasty head on near misses.  Also sharing the trail is the big deal.  For a map of the trails as a pdf click here

The Return Trip

On the way back to Four Elements you could pop into Margaret River for lunch from one of the bakeries or cafes, or for a sit down meal Three Oceans, or Bootleg Brewery both have a fmaily friendly environment.  Also you will be driving past the Margaret River Cheese Factory, Margaret River Nuts and Muesli, Silk Road silk farm, Margaret River Chocolate Factory and Providore.  All are worth stopping in for a look and a sample.
